Allies Training NSW Liquor Licensee course enables you to meet liquor licence requirements to become a successful and compliant licensee, approved manager or club secretary.

  • It is suitable for those working in a variety of industries including hotels, packaged liquor, clubs and small bars.
  • It allows you to contribute to the safety of your local community as you manage a responsible and professional hospitality business.
  • It is endorsed by Liquor and Gaming NSW, and the NSW Liquor Administration Board.
  • You will learn about liquor regulation, managing your liquor licence, your responsibilities to manage alcohol related harms, best practice strategies to prevent alcohol related harms and compliance and enforcement.

Who should do this course?

Licensee training is a requirement for most licensees, approved managers and club secretaries:

  • granted a new liquor licence or transfer of existing licence to another person or premises (from 1 September 2018)
  • aligned to the renewal of your existing NSW competency card (from 1 April 2019).

Advanced Licensee training is an additional course for people who operate a business in a higher risk environment. This includes licenced premises:

  • authorised to trade after midnight on more than 12 occasions in any 12-month period
  • certain business types, such as nightclubs and karaoke bars
  • subject to a regulatory scheme
  • directed by L&GNSW or ILGA

 

New liquor licence applicants

If you are applying for a new liquor licence, you need to ensure you have completed RSA training and, where relevant, also your Licensee and/or Advanced Licensee training.

Transfer of liquor licence

If you are applying to transfer a liquor licence, you will need to complete the required Licensee and/or Advanced Licensee training no later than 60 days from receiving provisional approval.

Approved manager and club secretaries

If you notify us of your intention to appoint an approved manager or a club secretary, that person needs to complete the required Licensee and/or Advanced Licensee training within 60 days of lodging the application.

Qualified interstate workers

Interstate workers with an appropriate RSA qualification looking to become licensees, approved managers or club secretaries in NSW, or simply wishing to upskill, can skip the NSW RSA Bridging course and simply complete Licensee Training to gain both their NSW RSA and Licensee Training competencies.

Appropriate interstate RSA qualifications include:

  • a national RSA statement of attainment or RSA refresher certificate from Victoria, the Northern Territory, or the Australian Capital Territory, issued within the last three years, or
  • a national RSA statement of attainment from South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, or Tasmania, issued within the last five years.

Requirements

To undertake this training, it is COMPULSORY that students:

  1. Bring photo ID on the day. This could be a driver’s license, passport or photo ID.
  2. You must be able to read and write in English. If you have difficulty, we recommend you call us before making a booking.
  3. Have a current valid RSA competency card. Your License must not be expired! If you do not have a valid RSA card that is current, we have course dates here.
  4. If you have an RCG and would like to keep it, you must do the RCG online refresher course. Note: You must present an RCG Interim certificate, RCG Refresher Interim Certificate or an RCG Refresher Completion Certificate issued within the last 90 days to enrol in Licensee training. This means you will need to complete the online RCG refresher if you completed a full RCG or renewed your RCG endorsement more than 90 days ago.
      • Email competency.card@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au and provide your Competency Card Holder (CCH) number, full name and date of birth.
      • You will be emailed a link to complete the online RCG refresher.
      • Alternatively if you do not wish to keep your RCG, advise trainer on the day that you wish to surrender your RCG and they will give you a surrender form.

Failure to be prepared will result in administrative fee of $99.

  1. Can I do this course without an RSA? 
    You must have a valid RSA card. If you do not have a valid RSA card, you can book for the RSA course here.
  2. I did my RSA, but it has expired. Can I still do this course? 
    You must have a valid RSA card.
  3. How will the training day look like?
    Training will be approximately 6.5 hours (incl. break). You will have a theory component, practical component, then an assessment at the end of the day. Once you have completed the course, you will receive your interim via email or printed on the day.
  4. Are you accredited?
    Yes! We are approved under Liquor and Gaming NSW to run both the RSA and RCG courses. All our trainers are also approved, with extensive experience in the industry. We assure you, that you will have a great learning experience!

An interim certificate will be issued to candidates that have  successfully completed the course. Trainees will then need to visit Service NSW with their Interim Certificate and Identification to update their Competency Card. A new Competency Card will be mailed to the applied address and is valid for five years.

Unit Overview

NSW Department of Liquor & Gaming legislation will require most venues selling alcohol to the public for consumption on and off the premises to hold an approved NSW Licensee Certificate. Training for the NSW Licensee Certificate is mandatory for most registered managers and must be completed through an approved training provider.

Completing the course successfully will result in an automatic renewal of a current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) endorsement on the recognised competency card.

  • Cancellations less than 7 days will receive not refund. Full course fee must be paid for future courses. Cancellations after the course date will not be valid, full fee must be paid for future courses.
